I learned this morning that former Vice President Schuyler Colfax died in Mankato on this date in 1885. He walked from the Union Depot to the Omaha Depot, arrived, and dropped dead of a heart attack due to the extreme cold. It was -30 that day.
Colfax was Vice President under Ulysses S. Grant. He was an adamant abolitionist and he served as Speaker of the House as well…
