Since I’m blogging book reviews for Sabbatical, I thought I’d throw this one in, too. This thriller was one of the most fun reads I’ve had in awhile. I listen to mysteries on CD in the car, but I rarely take my page-turning reading time for thrillers. I’m glad I chose this one with which to make an exception.
My friend Roger Hart recommended this, and I always trust Roger and Gwen Hart’s book recommendations. This one solidified that trust.
I won’t go into great detail about this Michael Koryta book, but it sucks you in with the opening, “On the last day of Jace Wilson’s life, he stood on a quarry ledge…” and doesn’t let you go until the end.
Set mostly in the Montana wilderness, the book zips along with a highly detailed but sleek, streamlined storytelling style. I couldn’t relax until the resolution. I can still see the whole thing in my head, and that opening line was so powerful that I wrote it from memory (though I looked it up to check myself). It’s one of those books I couldn’t stop thinking about and could hardly wait to sit down to continue. If you like a good thriller, don’t miss this one.
