I think Khaled Hosseini is a genius and I adore his writing, his characters, and the places his stories take us. I found this book a bit frustrating because I was never sure who was talking and where. (And there are two characters with the same name to add to the confusion). I love multiple narrators in most cases, and I did enjoy that in this book, but there were no markers to delineate them. I just had to wade into the each new section and figure out who was who. A couple of the connections weren’t quite as clear and powerful as I sort of expected after Hosseini’s last two books. I think if I had been able to read this straight through with no distractions, I’d feel differently. Although I recommend this highly, and it’s fascinating, I didn’t fall in love with it as I have with his other books. I didn’t want those to end, but this time, I felt more as if I had accomplished the task of reading. I enjoyed the ending, but I didn’t feel the tremendous sense of resolution I did with the others.
